T-4days to SXSWi!
SxSWi was the launch pad for Twitter, FourSquare, Gowalla. Smartphones are the de facto badges of honour in Austin. What will rock interactive this year?
Our SXSW talk "Brilliant Second Acts" is confirmed for March 17, 5pm.
Toronto starts arriving in Austin for SxSWi today. Getting a good start before Friday's official launch.
New Gowalla and Foursquare app updates out today just in time for SxSW! Downloading as we speak!
First day of #SxSWi kicks off with giant Formspring hoax that Twitter spreads like wildfire. As Inquisitr notes, the story which claims to be from AP isn't from the AP site, doesn't follow AP standards, nor can be found anywhere else of repute. Whoops.

Breaking! Fire at the Convention Centre forces SxSW attendees to evacuate! Which clever hash-tag will spring out of this?
Last year there were almost 11,000 SxSWi attendees. This year, the number jumped a jaw-dropping 50%.
Just finished my opening coverage of the SXSW Interactive Festival for Torontoist. I look at the Torontonian presence here and the emergence of the online game to spread awareness. Full story Sunday.
After 2+ days of SXSW, the vibe is that Foursquare is beating Gowalla in the battle for the location-based app space.
Another entrant in the location-based space is Whrrl. Their focus is on businesses, saving money and "Societies", groups that you become part of by checking into similar places.
Haven't heard any massive fails in terms of mobile data coverage. Looks like the telecoms were prepared this time round.
Also not hearing much reaction to Boyd calling out Buzz as "uncanny valley of social networking." Maybe because Buzz is such a non-starter?

Quiet, quiet SXSW.
There was big anticipation for the Twitter news at the Evan Williams keynote today. @anywhere is a new way for Twitter to entrench itself further in the web, but most of the talk I heard here and saw on Twitter was focused on the lackluster interview.
Perhaps it's difficult to live up to the expectations of hundreds lining up to see him, especially when there are many rabid attendees just waiting to be the first to tweet his news. But when the news ain't exciting, you know attendees are going to move their focus to something else... like the softball questions asked and the lack of insight gathered from this talk.
Underground rumblings of the increasing focus on deeper social networking, advertising and connectivity in network TV programming. Think clicking actors to read their bios, selecting a pair of jeans to buy them and, of course, integration with your friends lists on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
