Meditations: We are accelerating fast. There is the craft and the channels.

Even when you pick a lenses for a camera you are making a technological decision.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:12:31 PM
He's discussing how matte paints we so effect at saving money. Technology is now used to change that medium. Like Mya created by Bill's team.

Digital is not a cheap way to print, edit etc. It is a tool. Showing a film from core media. The film was never release but showing the demo
. A butterfly. The entire film was shot on a still camera. Two people 1999. Amazing.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:17:55 PM
The idea is you use the camera to take some photos with a $300 camera. take some shot and stitch them together. The idea is to explore the tools. Even a still camera can make and amazing shot in the hands of the right creative brain.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:21:10 PM
You have the shot: Apocalypse now on a budget. You ned that great shot. You need the great helicopter shot. So, you buy a still frame from a stock house. How can you take one photo and in 15 min. make a great shot? Photo graphed the scene, like a city and have a hole series of horses run done the street.

Show a great completion of still done but some guys in japan. Showing a QTVR that you can zoom in and out of a marina and the flag on the boats are moving. Everything that is happening in video happened 10 years ago in music. The point is it was only computation power that was needed.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:31:00 PM
Go shoot a crowed area of a street corner and us technology to extract the people. The point is the power of your laptop can do it now.

Young indian Jones 2hr 1.2 million dollars. Tons of elaborate sets. You would think it costed 50 Million. Set in the 1930's.

Really hi-lights the use of the power of technology and creative thinking to use minimal shots and still end up with a rich film experience. If you do it right can bring control back to the set. You can cut on location. WYSIWYG cinematography. No need to wait for dailies. You can still clean it up in post but you end up with a great starting point.

Its a holistic story: Plasmas use to cost 15 Grand. Movie house replaced there movie posted with one. What happens when they cost $10 a sq/ft. The is nothing that is going to happen in the next ten years that has not already been invented. It about prospecting and find those new technologies.

Soon there will be screen that are flexible and will have the same pixel you laptop has in a one square foot of a 100 in LCD
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:45:15 PM
Soon you will see project reduced down to a mobile phone that when projected you will interact with.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:46:56 PM
How do you use the media effectively. Every sign you see will be digital.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:47:57 PM
When you were a kid you made a tin can walki talki. It was actually a audio transducer.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:49:27 PM
Talk about touch surfaces and how you can extent it into your living room. The surface you engage with. David Campbell Smith invented icons at Xerox. The point is the icon now don't ned to be just pictures they can represent content. Drag stuff from the surface into you devices.

So

by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:55:03 PM

Where are we going with 3D and Holograms?
by MDM at 6/7/2008 3:57:23 PM
Don't hold your breath. The best animator is Rodan the sculpture. As you walk around one hole opens while another closes.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 4:00:07 PM
What about the immersive screen experience?
by MDM at 6/7/2008 4:00:32 PM
Wallpaper you can by today is more expensive than the wallpaper screens that will be available in 5 years.
by MDM at 6/7/2008 4:01:26 PM
HDR Impact? A: The more resolution you can get the better. You need 2k x 4K to really be able to zoom in and crop. Always keep the hi-res Dalsa is what I would shoot a hollywood film on.
