Everyone excited for McCain vs Obama?! I must admit that I'm not, I found the last one to be boring and predictable. Maybe its because I spend way too much time following this stuff, but unlike the Canadian debates, I didn't learn a single new thing about the policies or attitudes of either candidate.

Kerry Howley's got a good grasp on what to expect: 1. Foreigner Blaming
2. Independence Mongering
3. Bloody Accessory-Waving

And it begins. Tom Brokaw looks classy but... *where's his American flag lapel pin?*
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:02:00 AM
Tom Brokaw... does he love America, or what?
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:02:30 AM
he loves pocket squares
by Kalim Kassam at 10/8/2008 1:02:42 AM
John McCain walks in and, it looks like he *doesn't have an American flag lapel pin either!* (Shock and horror).
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:03:14 AM
Obama, meanwhile, proudly wears the American flag pin. He clearly loves America. But we have no way of knowing whether or not John McCain loves America.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:03:43 AM
McCain just looks awkward, especially the way he's sitting in his chair

First question is about economics: How do the "rest of us" get a "bailout"?
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:04:56 AM
(Something like that)
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:05:02 AM
Obama: He thinks the bailout might work, on the condition that there's "strong oversight" and that CEOs don't get "golden parachutes"
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:05:33 AM
Apparently, AIG took a nice vacation after they got a bailout. Obama thinks those folks should be fired.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:05:56 AM
Obama: The bailout package 'treats taxpayers as investors". So I guess everyone will be issued their shares soon, so they can benefit from the fabulous investments that the private market passed up on.
by Kalim Kassam at 10/8/2008 1:06:23 AM
McCain: "Americans are upset, angry and a little fearful. And it's our job to fix this"
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:06:46 AM
No, John, it's your job to stay the hell out of the economy.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:06:58 AM
McCain: "We've got to do something about home values"
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:07:32 AM
John McCain is already clamouring for more government action and bailouts for homes
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:07:51 AM
"Until we stabilize home values in America, we're never going to turn around and..." (fix the economy)
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:08:11 AM
Home values are the new climate change - they have to stay the same way forever.
by Robert Jago at 10/8/2008 1:08:13 AM
Oh. "It's not Obama's plan, and it's not Bush's plan, but it's my plan"
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:08:26 AM
McCain--distancing himself from Bush already
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:08:37 AM
John McCain likes Meg Whitman. She was CEO of eBay.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:09:31 AM
how long was that to hear the ebay thing? 9 minutes? new record.
by Robert Jago at 10/8/2008 1:09:41 AM
Yikes. eBay shed a bunch of jobs today. That's a bad reference...
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:09:49 AM
Obama bringing up class warfare, and needing the state to fix it.
by Chris Reid at 10/8/2008 1:10:41 AM
Obama: Wages and incomes have flatlined and it's getting harder and harder to save. Obama wants to cut taxes for middle income Americans
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:11:12 AM
Obama agrees with McCain: inflated housing prices CANNOT fall
by Kalim Kassam at 10/8/2008 1:11:15 AM
Oliver Clark has a question. "In this bailout package I'm wondering, what it is that will help these people out" (the folks who are losing the value of their homes)
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:11:58 AM
McCain's hyping his trip back to Washington
by Robert Jago at 10/8/2008 1:12:17 AM
McCain insists it's a "rescue plan" and not a "bailout." No, McCain, it's a bailout. Call things by their proper names, please.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:12:27 AM
McCain answers by explaining that it wasn't a bailout packager but a *rescue* package. OK, that answers the question.
by Kalim Kassam at 10/8/2008 1:12:32 AM
He should bring up that Fannie Mae was a big contributor to Democratic candidates
by Chris Reid at 10/8/2008 1:12:48 AM
Ha ha, Kalim. I'm a faster typer.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:12:54 AM
YES! He brought it up!
by Chris Reid at 10/8/2008 1:13:17 AM
There you are, Chris. "Senator Obama was the second highest recipient of contributions from Fannie May and Freddie Mac in history. In history."
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:13:36 AM
I got John McCain's secret talking points earlier ;-)
by Chris Reid at 10/8/2008 1:14:11 AM
Obama: Some small businesses can't get loans, and then they can't make payroll...
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:14:19 AM
Or you're feeding them to him
by Kalim Kassam at 10/8/2008 1:14:21 AM
Is Obama busy defending giving out crappy loans?
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:14:28 AM
if you can't get a loan, you have to lay people off? what rubbish
by Robert Jago at 10/8/2008 1:14:32 AM
if you need loans to make payroll you shouldn't be in business
by Robert Jago at 10/8/2008 1:14:46 AM
"I've got to correct some of Senator McCain's history. Not surprisingly." (Snap)
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:14:46 AM
@Robert: Agreed.
by Peter Jaworski at 10/8/2008 1:15:01 AM
