  • Technology in action. Sitting at the Program and Education booth. Robert watching Twitter: Saw a Tweet complaining about room 102A being too hot. Robert and Karen call Lloyd, Lloyd calls maintenance to turn up air conditioning. Robert sends tweet back to melting attendee, saying air conditioning being turned up. Thanks returned to Robert and Twitter. Rather cool! And this is my first Scribble...

  • Trends in User Research session about to start in Room 108A. Jean Anderson, Whitney Quesenbery, Ginny Redish, Todd Zaki Warfel, Karen Bachmann will speak about new approaches and best practices in ways to gather real data about users to inform product design and development. This session is being recorded so that it can be shared with everyone after the session as an audio file, gift of the Usability and User Experience SIG. I am sure you can find details about the completed file at www.stcsig.org/usability in the near future.

  • I'm in Jane Bozarth's session on Instructional Design for the Real World.
Hoping my second wind kicks in. Presenting|at the Management Progression took a lot of energy, but I can't miss any of these sessions! Sitting in the front of the room in an effort to stay awake. Welcome to live blogging, Karen!

  • Good comment from Ginny at Trends in User Research discussion: what are you going to do with the data you collect? You have to think about that!

  • Trends in User Research: interesting comments about the lingo. One example about not bringing in the word "usability" into the project so you don't daunt/scare/put off people. Or... perhaps people know what the word is, but don't know what it entails, what lies behind the words. Answer there: ask questions to get at the essence.

  • google Macafee case study. Had 95% reduction in support costs after a redesign. Good argument! Tip from Todd at "Trends in User Research".

  • Sometimes a manager asks for training when there is really a simpler solution such as an easy process change. Instructional designers should not just be order takers. Use the analysis phase to think of a solution that may or may not be training.

  • Much interest in AIR-Help
Very lively discussion about, and interest in, using Adobe AIR as a help
    client.

  • What's the scoop on Adobe-Air?
Will it replace our current help-authoring tools?
