Rocky Top League day two is underway. Knoxville News Sentinel up 70-57 on Rice Buick GMC at halftime of game one. Detrick Mostella (Rice) not short on first half highlights.
Second half starting now. Rice needs a run to get back in it.
Kenny Hall just swatted a 3 point shot attempt into the stands. Drew some ooh's and ahh's from the crowd.
Add this to Mostella's highlight reel: alley oop from Bobby Maze off the backboard. The frosh finishes with a reverse 2-handed slam.
KNS lead still hovering around 20. Rice refusing to get back on defense to stop the break.
Mostella slashes hard at Hall. Hall denies the shot but the pint sized guard gets the foul call. He's attacking with intensity.
Maze finds Mostella on the break again, he finishes the layup over Hall. KNS lead down to 16, 13:00 2H
Mostella skies for another dunk on the break to cut it to 14. He really likes to leak out in transition.
Meanwhile, that KNS lead is now down to 3 after Mostella pulls off the pro-style scoop layup and-one. He's fun to watch in the air.
Heat check for the freshman. His 3 to tie misses everything. But he goes right back to the lane to draw the foul.
Mostella leaks out and finishes with another highlight reel dunk. This one: a 360-degree two handed flush. Vol fans are gonna love him.
In case you were wondering, Maze's crossover is still in tact. Pulled off a nice left-stick combo to beat his man and found the cutter for two. Rice still trailing 108-103, 5:20 to go.
WOW. Mostella just caught an alley oop pass from half court and finished with two hands over Brandon Lopez. He took off from well outside the lane on that one.
Devon Baulkman on Monday: "(Mostella has) sneaky bounce. He WILL dunk on you." Lopez can attest to that.
Couple Maze layups and a bucket by Mostella and this game is tied at 116 with 2 minutes left. Everything about this league has been entertaining so far.
Delta State's Devin Schmidt hits the up and under layup and-one to put Rice up 3. First lead of the game.
Rice holds off KNS to complete the comeback 122-118. Bobby Maze said Mostella is one of the most athletic guys he's ever seen.
DeRoyal Industries vs. ChoiceSpine tipping off soon. Vol signees Devon Baulkman and Willie Carmichael in DeRoyal white. Both followed Tyndall from So. Miss.
ChoiceSpine leads 12-5 early. Chism is reprising his role from Monday as secondary point guard.
The full Wayne Chism ensemble, from head-to-toe. (He DID decide to wear his strategically-placed headband tonight.)
Chism leading the charge early. His team is now up 19-14. He's got at least 12 of those 19.
Point guard Wayne Chism just threw a alley oop pass about 4 feet to high. Bricked off the top half of the backboard. Choice leads a back and forth game 23-21, 11:06 1H.
Carmichael just muscled up a couple buckets on back to back possessions. Chism has been coaching him up a little bit in league play this summer.

Baulkman nails a 3 over Armani Moore to cut Choice's lead to 3. Moore responds with a bucket and the foul. FT no good. 37-32, 5:40 1H.
Carmichael has been a beast on the offensive glass. Grabs a board, draws a foul and knocks them down to give DeRoyal a 40-39 lead.
Think Carmichael's up to four blocks tonight. His motor runs high on both ends.
Another tought bucket for Carmichael makes it 46-46 at the half. Maybe the lowest scoring half so far. Neither team on pace for 100.
I'm sure that will change in the second ...
Armani Moore takes a dribble and flies by Carmichael for the tomahawk slam. Carmichael puts in a baby hook on the other end. UT players showing off a bit tonight.
Jordan Hall from Lee University made a couple 3's in a row for DeRoyal. Missed his 3rd, but Carmichael was there for cleanup.
Bad sequence for Baulkman. Air balled a stepback, couldn't catch up to Chism's pass on the fast break. The pass might have been a little in front of him ...
Baulkman kicks to Chism in the corner for 3. He had all day to line it up.
More cleanup for Carmichael. PA claims he's "become a man tonight." Might be on his way to 20-plus rebounds.
Can't confirm. The league only tallies points, made/missed field goals. Carmichael has definitely been active on the boards though.
Chism knocks a pair of freebies down to give DeRoyal a 76-73 lead. Moore hits from 3 to tie it with 7:30 to go.
