Mandatory disclaimer: don't be too harsh on the presentation that's thrown together when the internet was out =)
"Who has a twitter account?" About half the room; maybe less
Twitter in plain english:
www.youtube.com
@gerrykirk did a Twitter course last year which was super-helpful
Hi! I'm in Marla's session right now for Twitter at Soo Pod Camp!
have only used twitter a handful of times in past year
"What would I ever say to the world? At first I thought I wouldn't have anything to say..."
"but then I found one thing...then many things...then it was hard to keep it to 140 characters..." =)
Hi Again, Marla is a self-professed Twitter addict - how cool is this? There's no one better to learn from...
Marla and Lady Gaga had some... interaction...
I'm hoping that Curt gives me an Avatar so I can be seen! :)
1 cool thing about twitter -- you can tweet something to, say,
@ladygaga and she might read it or even reply
Marla believes in PEACE! You need to check out the cool pix of peace symbols she has on either side of her twitter account!
Q: Where did you get your twitter background? A: Made it myself with Photoshop; there are lots of ppl who will do it for you for free or for a fee
Q: What's retweet? A: If I liked something someone said, I can click on the retweet button and repeat it to all my followers
Tweet... tweet... lots of followers and lots of people to be followers...
This is the first time I've ever blogged - did you know that? :) How am I doing?
Think I might get addicted to this, as well - short and sweet - that's a tweet! :)
yay Susan =) liveblogging is neat, it's very stream-of-consciousness =)
wow - had quite an aggressive statement made!
Things are getting interesting in here, wouldn't you agree, Rick? :)
Q: What's the value in tweeting? Does anyone really care about what you write? A: It all depends, some people use it for business...I'm connected with my friend who's in China right now in a way we wouldn't otherwise be; they might care that I had bad coffee yesterday and start a conversation about it
International for sure - we are being global! :)
Q: What about the business aspects of things? How can you use twitter for your business -- just tweet "Come to my event?" A: yes, exactly...
I think I need to open a twitter account so I can do this more often - I like it!
Q: What's the difference between facebook & twitter? A: Facebook is for ppl that you used to know; Twitter is for people who you'd like to know
Facebook is usually for those who you used to know... Twitter is for those you want to know... - Rick you are quicker than me!
laughter in the room - this is bliss! :)
hashtags... not to be confused with hashbrowns!
@curtoneil: expanding on why @marlaguzzo has 600+ followers -- when you talk about stuff -- photography, hockey, whatever -- you may find people interested in the same topics following you
speaking about malicious tweets - and the means to remove/block them... there will always be someone who wants to spoil the fun and need to leave them behind on the journey to happiness
the fact that I follow you on Twitter but you don't follow me is further proof you're not willing to put any effort into this relationship...
@susan - totally agreed, but the nice thing is that 99% of people and their interactions are completely aboveboard -- you only have to worry about the 1% =)
We are learning from a real Twitter expert!
Neat discussion now happening about face-to-face or electronic socialization - is it either/or or both?
According to Marla, it's both - balance - not a choice... she does get out and meet people!
Q: Does using twitter decrease your real-life socialization skills? A: "Twitter isn't like World of Warcraft; you don't sit in a basement....oh, I'm sorry, do you guys play World of Warcraft?"
getting business and information out there, being sent by others... it's viral
I don't play World of Warcraft... yet! But today is a new day, and perhaps I should be heading downstairs to my basement! (If I had one...)
Talking about how business presence on twitter can help control their brand...and get you immediate help from, say, Samsung, when your Samsung gadget breaks
Yes, that was cool! A rep saw that something Marla said about a product she had bought that broke just one year later - and called her - told her to send her the info so he could take care of it! (unfortunately, he was from the States and couldn't help her...) bummer
Marla, self-professed Twitter addict will be without access to her phone next week in Florida! She will be cut cold-turkey! (but will have a laptop with her...)
Twitter...such a simple concept. Taking the world by storm....
Haaaaaaa! Introducing The Fail Whale, aka Twitter Culture =)
