THIRD CULTURE LEADER
We live for you. She adapted and sacrificed for us.
Understand painful adaptation. The world will take notice of our great God.
Redefining Metrics
Failure is success to God. You weakness and your failures are often a gift from God. Maybe failure is success. Listen to peoples stories. Do I see people? I need to see them. Weakness will guide you. It is often our strength.
How do quantify our vision?
Vision: Love God Love Neighbor
Relationships Trump Vision. You can't have a great vision unless you have a great relationship with God. We need a different set of matrix in the church. God allows us to experience pain to improve our metrics.
How my life Changed.
Priority Shifts
- 70/30 Principle
- What is 70% was leadership development? His main task was modeling the equipping of leaders.
- Best discipleship happens with life on life.
- I am going to hang out with people not like me
- Reads people different than him.
Changed the design and space of the place
- Each location is different
Maybe the Christian life is more about obedience.
4 Acts of Obedience
- deeper collaboration
- communal living "community"
- prayer
- radically sacrifice for the unbeliever
If you really believe and depended upon the holy spirit. you would pray.

Africa - 53 Countries - 900 Million People
Solving problems in Africa through Innovation and Entrepreneurial Initiatives. We should be working together to rise out of poverty.
There is no country in the world that has become successful through hand-outs.
Trade is the only way to bring a people and country out of poverty. We need to equip people to trade themselves out of poverty.
Africa contributes only 2% to global trade enterprise. Every time we look at Africa we see at problems not opportunities.
We need to change the conversation, change the narrative.
Aid undermines accountability. In a situation like aid. You create chronic dependence. We need a new thinking. We need to change the conversation.
You can make a difference today. You can go out and buy an African coffee, garment, tea and products. People get by through stretching out and helping one another.

Author of the book, Too Small to Ignore
Daily Radio Broadcast "Speak Up with Compassion"
Leadership without passion is not leadership at all.
The gift of leadership given to the leader by those who are following is given every day.
Pain. Hardship. Broken heart from poverty and abuse.
Did I somehow get the laziest guardian angel in heaven. I have to go back and tell the whole story.
"For 35 years I have been looking at the wrong side of the tapestry." - Wes Stafford
BC and AD - Before the Candle and After the Damage.
Our silence enabled the perpetuation of evil in this place.
My friends that heard me tell. Looked at me like a dead man walking. I had broken the silence. I had told.
We had everything that a little white boy needed to heal his soul.
I received my calling in an instant. I swore forever that I would protect children. To speak out against abuse and crime.
They fell down as children and never got up.
Poverty and abuse speak the same language into children. "Give Up" no one cares and you will never be able to do anything about it.
A story that Satan intended for evil but God redeemed for His good.
I am somehow still useful in His kingdom.
What is it that moves you passionately? nothing? please don't live like that or lead like that.
Those who leadership is launched by pain and sorrow. Most give in and give up. But there are those who never miss a challenge who fight for what they believe.
One homework assignment: Ask yourself "So who is this person?" Who is he? Where is he going? What is he doing? A 30 minute study of you.
If you do not forgive the people that hurt you, you are carrying them around you on your back.
Bill Hybels
God is wrecking me right now through Wes' talk. Through my experiences.
If you do not forgive. You put yourself in prison.
Session 6: David Gergen
Eyewitness to power
Reflect, Journal, Write, Discussion. Leaders confuse motion with progress. Think carefully about what you are trying to accomplish. Go after them relentlessly.
Peter Drucker - book, The Effective Executive

6 week period, write down what you hope to accomplish and then go back and review your progress. The easiest thing we do is fool ourselves.
Bill - I review my journal and see what went right and examined the contributing factors to that success.
David Gergen, book "Eyewitness to Power" - Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton
Someone who can look farther back can look farther ahead.
Reagan's weekend was his detachment. Reagan let others put his hands on the wheel. That is good or bad depending upon who is on your team.
Sometimes for the leader "Inspect" is as important and "Respect".
Clinton had cracks in his character, like Nixon they got the best of him. He made mistakes and grievous mistakes.
Great Leaders carry with them great flaws? Not all great leaders were deeply flawed. Christ was the greatest leaders and it's hard to find it there.
What do you do when you are on CNN and they keep asking you to talk about Michael Jackson for 3o days?
back to great leader - great flaw? lol. self awareness is to recognize your bright-side and your dark-side. How do you come to grips with your flaws?
A lot of people are not going to conquer their flaws. But do not let them derail you.
How does one bring an alignment with your public behavior and your private life?
Martin Luther was the great moral leaders in the history of our country. Like Ghandi. But he had a very chaotic private life. How do you square Martin Luther King's private life and his public life? He never claimed to be a saint. "I am not as good as you think I am" MLK. You always get up everyday and try and do better.
All of us. We should be more forgiving and less invasive of peoples private lives but very demanding of their public lives.
Standard for the press.
The greatest leaders build great teams. The role of leadership is trying to inspire and bring the right team but you also have to learn to work outside your team. Partner, collaborate, we build things together. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
What is leadership? It is the working with others in pursued of shared goals. Old days we would order others. Today we have to persuade and must have trust and communications. Symbols are very powerful - the commercial world calls this a "brand".
