Presenter:
Curt O'Neil:
@curtoneil, photographer and Certifiably Awesome Guy
It's a full room!
Lights, camera....ACTION!
Starting the session with duelling lightswitches!
completely full? is there still room?
no...come on in
yes, come on in mike!
there's still room!
This session has More Cowbell!
this session is "awesome"
Be yourself! Curt's niece calls him "Captain Awesome"
Curt's very much at ease! He's broken out this awesome
Takahashi-style presentation outta nowhere
Just remember who you are and market yourself as who you are. Curt is awesome!
Everybody here is unique...market yourself for who you are.
Social networking - there's still that two-way communication! Don't let it scare you!
used to phone books and such....now its google
networking is moving more online
being online helps you cast your net a lot bigger than it could have been offline
networking is online, but it's still just networking.
ntworkn
networking spelled ntwrkn is still networking
networking is networking even when it's "ntwrkn" =)
Net (cast your net as big as you can cast it), you can actually become the king of what you do (or queen) (hence Net wor king)
"Be you" isn't restricted to who you are right now..."Be you" can be "be the person you want to become"
Go to Sault College :)
i.e. Curt's a photographer. maybe he wants to be the photographer you think of when you think of wedding photographers! Think of what you want to become.
"be you" and think about how that can sell you.
don't pretend you're something you're not online. be you. (be authentic!!!!)
social media -- everything's a two-way street. oooh, how true! =)
curt likes cheese
It's a two-way street (similar to what Nate was saying in his session). You're not going to meet someone for the first time in real life, walk up to them, tell them to buy your product and walk away. Don't do that online!
if people are going to listen what you have to say, you have to listen to what they have to say. it's bidirectional, not a broadcast medium
If you're just broadcasting "me me me" all the time then you're not networking!
everybody knows when they're being "sold to" or marketed to...if somebody's just emanating a stream of MeMeMeMeMeeeeee....ppl are going to tune them out
Don't be afraid to have conversations, retweet something else etc. The net is interactive. Interact!
Curt doesn't like the "I believe" Olympic song because CTV overplayed it (especially during the Superbowl). Why? Because they kept broadcasting it over and over and over and over...
The message of the ad and the song were lost because of that. Don't be like that online!
The business card's evolved. How many people look at business cards?
I have Curt O'Neil's business card somewhere at my desk at work. Sorry Curt, I haven't looked at it in a while!
"If you just know somebody by their business card, how are you going to start a conversation?"
"The Evolution of Connection" you start with your biz card (with phone number), moves on to include email. Now it's moved onto Twitter etc.
If you're not following that or part of that you could get left behind (i.e. if your only contact info is through your phone number)
