How do you keep up with where the new toys are?
by krissf at 7/24/2008 10:57:20 AM
well learning and research surely - unis have a research mission as well as a learning and teaching mission ??
by andypowe11 at 7/24/2008 10:58:09 AM
Yes, just keeping up with new technology requires resources (people). Getting our Uni's to recognise this is really important.
by helennewnham at 7/24/2008 10:59:31 AM

Does anyone know if that talk is going to be available on YouTube or somewhere? He's really good - I want to show my colleagues.
by helennewnham at 7/24/2008 10:59:53 AM
There's a video being recorded so it must be available from somewhere
by krissf at 7/24/2008 11:00:25 AM
by andypowe11 at 7/24/2008 11:02:16 AM
Hmm. Good point about tribal conservatism
by PeteJ at 7/24/2008 11:02:28 AM
Really enjoyed Ewan's talk; thought-provoking and challenging but he's talking to the converted (I hope). The cultural challenge within the university as he noted at the beginning is immense. Lecturers like Bb because it saves them time/effort to do what they have always done - push information. They're scared seriously about collaborative workspaces because they may be challenged - even from outside the institution. There's too much "control" still embedded into learning - now there's the challenge

just think of the money you're saving your institution by not going up there..

Best lecture theater EVER
by Paul Milne at 7/24/2008 11:17:37 AM
I'd second that Andy - grest stream quality (maybe speakers need reminding to keep close to mic)
by helennewnham at 7/24/2008 11:19:02 AM
the video feed was great - good camera/screen coordination, and only a minor problem with audio volume - aw, it just went off! Great to earwig on some of the sessions. See ya'll.
