What are good chants for a Wake-Up Call flashmob? I'm thinking "Climate Action, Climate Action, Copenhagen: Satisfaction!"

I'm having a flash mob in Courtenay B.C., and I'm just wondering a good thing to say to the leader and stuff?

Do we call the federal government, or the regional ones, or both?
by Belgium9/16/2009 8:05:11 AM
Federal government is most important!

In the U.S., should we be calling our Senators and Representatives? Or who?
by Karryn9/17/2009 2:23:38 AM
We are planning to start painting peoples face in our group red. With the idea that if we don't do anything we all will look like that. this will start spontanously and hopefully will draw some attention. We bought a mask from the Primeminister here in Japan ( Hatoyama) and have people take pictures posing with him holding up a sign. Still have to think of a grabbing message as it needs to be easy to understand as most people don't speak English here. Then we will hand out Hatoyama's email address and ask people to mail him and attach their own picture of them posing with him. Well thats the plan for now..... might still change.

Just a thought for those in London, can someone organise to have Big Ben set to ring at 12H18 on the 21st of September, this will be most unusual and can create the media hype and some serious attention to the issue.
by Tshepo9/17/2009 8:46:29 AM
Another idea will be to get your local firestation to ring the horns at 12h18 and take some pics. Or if you are in a mining town arrange with the mind to set the alarm. These are just some thoughts that can draw attention to the issue. Your place of worship will also be ideal despite your religious beliefs church bells and so forth

We're still compiling all the numbers to use for calling - they'll be available very soon at an online link we'll post here and send out. We should call heads of state, cabinet officials and parliaments/congress. We'll probably jam a lot of the lines but we've found that makes a big impression on them! And we can just keep calling through the day

Hey - check out the new Frequently Asked Question document
by Brett9/18/2009 5:20:57 PM
The FAQ document is up the top of this forum - under the heading FAQ - it should answer all your Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about running a Climate Wake Up event.
by Brett9/18/2009 5:22:29 PM
Running the alarm at 19h15 (7:15 pm) will help us getting many more people and a more elaborated animation, but will probably make us miss some phone calls because of closing time of cabinets. Don't know how big is the risk to miss the calling sequence. So we will try to make "soft" calls during the afternoon.

Hi Everyone,
by julia9/18/2009 9:41:56 PM
Hi Everyone, I'm writing from Toronto Canada, and thought I would share my event idea with others... at our event we plan to all wear business attire (suits or blazers, and carrying briefcases or satchels), under the theme "climate change is everybody's business." Should be a great visual for photos, interesting for onlookers, and lots of fun for participants! Feel free to use this idea if you like. Best of luck with all of your events on Monday. You all rock!
by julia9/18/2009 9:44:31 PM
Hey there. I'm trying to organize this as a very last-minute affair. I'm not sure how well it will come off, but I thought I had to try. I only heard about it this afternoon... We'll see, I guess!
by Melanie9/18/2009 10:40:59 PM
Please spread the word.
by Alfonso9/19/2009 10:20:02 AM
Contact any NGO in your region, political activists, social networks, the flashmobber communities in your country. there is such a huge network. let us use it and make the wake-up call really loud. thank you very much and good luck. A.

Ik ben nog op zoek naar telefoonnummers van bevoegde politici in Belgie, kan iemand me die doormailen? luk_durnez@hotmail.com
by Luk Durnez Belgie9/20/2009 7:38:46 AM
Does Avaaz have a history of effecting significant change through this type of event? If so, I'll use it to impress the press and rouse the crowd Monday. Might even mention it in a last minute reminder email today. Someone?

Anyone know where to find a phone number to call Stephen Harper? the website only gives email and fax. Thanks, Hannah
by Hannah CANADA9/20/2009 4:48:38 PM
Anyone in Canada - look at www2.parl.gc.ca and see if your MP is on the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee, as they are currently reviewing Bill C-311. We can have the most influence if we focus our phone call efforts on them.
by William CANADA9/20/2009 10:57:53 PM
Harper: 1 (403) 253-7990
by Malcolm9/21/2009 2:07:20 AM
Hi all - Pictures and media are flooding in! Hannah from Canada check your email tonight - you should be getting one with all the right phone numbers to call. Carol from US - yes we've repeatedly found phone calls to be highly effective - 14,000 calls in Brazil got the president to veto a damaging bill, 3000 calls to the ruling party in Germany got them to send their candidates for election to our climate forums etc. Julia from Toronto - fantastic idea! Especially kids in suits with that sign "climate is everyone's business" would be really impressive.
