- The Creative Industries Technology Strategy appears to focus on issues around standardisation of digital technology and related issues of interoperability. There is little on how digital technology adds value to the process of creative content production. The distinction between 'manual' and 'technology-aided' creative processes seems strange, given that even one's own hand becomes a tool for example for a potter, and therefore forms part of a set of technologies used by creative content creators. The portrayal of technology in the strategy document appears to be 'alienated' from the people that use it. But what can we commercialise ones we have separated ourselves form the rich creative and cultural content generated within our social milieux, where commerce is just one feature of many?

- Given the enormous diversity of content creators what plans are in place to create an effective pathway for creators to use the metadata systems envisaged by the TSB strategy?
- Is there also a danger of digital content generation displacing other forms of creative content, e.g music track downloads and even CDs to a certain extent have made album cover art redundant. Is the result a poorer creative content?

- We all probably are fully aware of the technological possibilities but the challenge of commercialisation in the long term surely needs to include the monetisation of the creative process to continue providing the content - or are we just going to have "perfect" content made by computers?

- Adding metadata to products and services (for example film pre production) can give benefits and must be started with some urgency as data knowledge is leaving the UK
How should that be supported? - Music isn't yet using metadata effectively - companies like Sony prefer the restriction of metadata because it makes it more difficult for rights holders to get paid!

- What about the possibilities of immersive experiences and user generated meta data within an educational context. At present most e-learning courses consist merely of audio content over a slide show with perhaps a basic multiple choice questionnaire. Surely creative media has been massively underutilised with regards to education

- Second Life is being used quite widely, with some notable successes, but I'm interested on how Govt emphasis on 'skills' and 'creative entrepreneurship' may restrict wider philosophical debate which is needed to produce the truly innovative creative practitioners for the future.

- There are those available in film Power to the Pixel is a good example on how the film industry are working on this
- Does the focus on metadata put further pressure onto the content creators. how does it add value to the creative process?
- We are offering these items on long form and content creation already.
- the main thing holding back innovation in the creative industries is the lack of affordable ubiquitous broadband in the uk.
- the money for innovation sadly only lies with companies producing the technology and not the content
- 4ip says that 50% of young people create content on youtube etc daily the business opportunity is massive
- broadband will become an ever increasing concern until the government Testbed scheme files its report
- nice discussion. missed information on new emuneration models for the distribution of digital creative content.
- however we will have the fastest and most reliable service in the world but we just won't have anything to put on it as all the money will be spent on the infrastructure and not the content

- @Anonymous great point re the need to create metadata putting more pressure on content creators, that's why we need more technology skills in the mainstream, more kudos for creative technologists and more recognition of it's value. I fear this won't happen fast enough to help the UK fulfil its huge potential.
