ok, let's do this
still going on with everybody introducing themselves
crazy mixture of people here
what is collaboration?
collaboration is not inviting a bunch of different people to a meeting at the beginning of a project
collaboartion is not separatly working on the same project
why collaborate?
collaboration is often seen as a waste of time
but:
good for team builidng & morale
good for communication (bad communication kills projects)
good for cross disciplinary skills
good for cross disciplinary insights
more heads/eyes/perspectives
the team & stakeholders will just buy in more
fun is a huge part, enthusiasm plays a big part
you get better results from people who are engaged
attendees share how they are collaborating in their daily work now
So where does collaboration start for you? Sharing files, working on docs, or face-to-face work?
there is tremendous value in getting together in a room
as this workshop is for people actually sitting in one room. but a lot of ideas might also work for online collaboration.
advice: turn stakeholders into collaborative partners!
build collaboration into your project!
collaborate with your peers and invite other expert perspectives!
consider wildcard collaborators from outside your field!
collaborate THROUGOUT the project...
what are good tools to colaborate? think people, sticky notes, fun stuff, whiteboards, sugar. also, an objective is good, and: TECHNIQUES!
scheduling sessions in the morning helps - forget low energy afternoon workshops.
live collaboration part. slower live blogging now ;)
breaking off into groups of ten
this turned into an anonymous brainstormer meeting ;-)
you need a good facilitator
the failitator has to be one who can say what has to be said
brainstorming rules:
#
"what's the problem/question?"
- appoint a facilitator & a scribe
if it's not written down it will not be followed up on
- listen moren than you talk
be responsible when you get exciting.
this is also an important job for the facilitator to keep you in line
- suspend judgement
- make sure you're having fun
