COP15 irony? Overheard delegates at COP15 conference talking about the weather in Copenhagen, lamenting that it was too cold. hmmm...
This is the biggest climate meeting in history, with 15,000 participants from 192 nations. The summit opened today with hosts Denmark saying an unmissable opportunity to protect the planet was "within reach." We'll see...
Please send us your thoughts and comments on anything to do with the summit and the subject of climate change. We'll try to post as many of them as we can.
The purpose of this summit is to find an 'answer' to climate change, but there are also many questions. Fortunately, we have put together a team of experts to answer a 'Question of the Day'. Read more about our assembly of academics, scientists and politicians and send us your question for them.

Campaign group Friends of the Earth was holding a protest as we arrived at the conference centre this morning. Reuters correspondent Emma Graham-Harrison spoke to them and we will post a link to her blog soon. Meanwhile, here's a pic of their rather beautiful ice sculpture.

As promised, here is Emma Graham-Harrison's blog on Copenhagen's 'Melting Mermaid' - an ice sculpture brought to the summit by Friends of the Earth. The icey tribute to the city's famous waterfront statue, which will be allowed to melt in the next few days, represents global warming and is there to remind delegates what is at stake in the two weeks of talks.

The pictures below are of sculptures from the installation 'The Pulse of the Earth', outside the congress centre. Like much of the art and installations on show across the city, it is designed to shock by drawing attention to the consequences of global warming. The pics are by Reuters photographer Pawel Kopczynski
Climate campaigners Avaaz (www.avaaz.org) just staged a 'die-in' in the conference centre's main hallway. Members of the global campaign group, dressed in creepy overalls, collapsed one by one to highlight the fact that "Climate change already causes 300,000 deaths every year." Avaaz is calling for nothing less than a "real deal in Copenhagen." Dramatic stuff, and I'm sure there will be lots more of this sort of thing over the next two weeks. Reuters photographer Bob Strong was there and I'll post a few of his pictures shortly.
