Sorry about the avatar folks. I'm new to this and this is my Twitter Avatar.
Stu just checked in to see if this is working. Hope it is He is just thrilled. Folks have to keep getting more chairs. Circle the size of 1/2 the gym.
Stu is welcoming us.
He has interacted with many islanders about food issues. If we came together we could do so much more.
Wants today to be about action. Discussion about overcoming challenges.
Stu wants to introduce new keeners to those who have been farming on Bowen for years. Off Island person from City Folk/Country Folk is here. Bob Turner, Peter Frinton and Chris Buchannan also.
Great intro, IMHO Stu is the right person for this. Chris Corrigan is introducing the openspace concept. Only 10 of about 60 have done open space before. Graphic reporter Maureen will create an image to record the event. More people arriving..you better get down here...this may be the event of the year.
Others I recognize here...Morgan Keplar,Bruce Howlett, Suzanna the purple door girl, Jean Jamieson, Elle Glave, Aubin VonBerkle, Karen Wersten, Tim Rhodes, Stacey Leigh Allan Whitehead, Jackie Massey, Coeen O'neill
Accidentally saved last post before I was finished...but that was enough of that. Guy beside me (Doug) figures there are 100 people here.
Lot's of people are presenting topics for small discussions. Doug and I just had a talk about Transition Towns. This is so cool.
Have joined the compost group...Julie, Morgan, Collen, Don and 3 I don't know.
Very energetic conversation about composting. Julie took great notes. Morgan tried to help us understand the options. Compost committee Alan, Stu, Sarah, Don, Collen. Jake and Morgan.
Sorry folks, tech glitch, I was posting away into nowhere, John got me back on track.
Good discussions on organising a Bowen Island Food/Growers Society to act as umbrella organisation for grants and expertise acquisition. Also forms of co-op both for land ownership and operations
Agricultural Land What is available?
Interesting idea - Community gardens in meadow in Crippen Park. Base of Mountain Gardner as agricultural land.
Group made a list of land and examined each as to usability and availability.
Apparently Sorenson is willing to talk about community gardens.
Sheep people seem to be having a good discussion.
I missed the transition towns talk but would like to hear more about this.
Things are slowing down, a few leaving. A few of us are staring to giggle.
Now we are all back in a circle. There is some very nice art work on the wall. We were 100 and now about 60. Discussion leaders are going to break out. We can visit with them and are to think about how we can help get something started.
