- Hi, I am currently looking at how the digital inclusion agenda will involve older people who reside in residential care homes, particularly as relatively little attention has been paid to this group, does anyone have any direct experience with this particular group or thoughts on this matter? - We are not doing anything right. We haven't got decent broadband in 90% of the UK land mass. this leads to rural exclusion.

- Great initiatives but is society's level of literacy the elephant in the room?
- @cyberdoyle not just rural exclusion. Many in urban areas have very poor connectivity and this usually gets overlooked.
- We can't get everyone online until we have the pipes. We need fibre, not obsolete throttled copper.
- MORE than 35,000 IT workers from outside the European Union were granted work permits in Britain last year despite the economic downturn.
- @IvyBean104 is our oldest tweeter, 104 years old and matron pat brings her a laptop to tweet, the ladies in the home all share the same laptop. I think its great. We need more people like Matron Pat.
- No point in putting government services online until people have access to decent broadband. just sayin.
- I have 100 families and businesses round me who can't get online. Even dial up doesn't work. No mobile signal. No satellite cos of south facing hills. Who will help?
- Public Private infrastructure development will not be easy. Will the new fund give cash to BT, for example. And, if it odes where is the commercial incentive to do it themselves?

- Too much replication, nothing shared, no joined up thinking. Great point Martha.
- Jim missing the point. hundreds of properties in my area alone would love to be online. The obsolete copper can't deliver. Mobile can't deliver. Nor can satellites, we have tried them all.
- Giving people free laptops won't give people home access. 90% of the uk land mass hasn't got enough decent internet access.= 40% of uk population excluded.
- Question for panel: How are you going to get 100% participation when so many people can't get a connection despite the lies of ofcom and openretch? Even now their websites say 99.8% are connected to dsl enabled exchange. They omit to mention it is only for voice access. Politicians need to be aware of this spin...

- Can't access jobcentre online. No online centres in rural areas. Another politician ignoring the rurals.
- Q for Jim Knight. Could he talk to Health Trusts about wifi networks and mobile phone use in hospitals. They are joined-up places!

- we recycle old computers out of skips and loan them to the elderly in our village. Then they get the hang of it and buy their own. then we recycle them again.

- It's all fine and well making these plans for digital inclusion in the UK, but how are you going to implement and develop a future proof infrastructure over which each user can access the internet? The infrastructure in place today is fragmented between private companies... will they be installing new higher speed networks to cope with the increased internet traffic? OR will the governement be willing to pay for an infrastructure which will meet the demands? I somehow can't see digital inclusion working until a high speed infrastructure is in place which will meet the demand of an additional 10million home users and thats not including those who are digitally excluded by circumstance at this present time!

- I remember going to the local pub with father-in-law early 1980s and saying that a swipe card would be used for paying for ale in years to come we are now entering that era with pre-loaded 'money cards' which will tie in nicely with council tariffs #ndi10 however looking at the time scale of pre load cards Online computers use will be slower
- Digital TV brings "Digital Inclusion" to every viewer, but differences in Freeview boxes give different experiences. Some people (especially the old) struggled, and are still struggling. One Click TV channel change is now two or more clicks away. Technology that is well designed and simple should be embraced. There needs to be a place for people to see the options/or Gov. needs to ensure that the easiest to use technologies/best designed devices are recognised and encouraged.
