Special units played a major role in Ottawa’s victory Saturday night at the Canadian Tire Arena.
The Montreal Canadiens gave up three goals while in power play for the first time of their history in a lifeless match. Ottawa’s special units put one more goal in power play, leading them to a 5-0 victory.
Ottawa didn’t waste time to install their forecheck and Montreal’s defensemen had a hard time to handle it. With so many important players out off the line-up, such as Subban and Barbario, the younger defense players led by Nathan Beaulieu couldn’t stop Ottawa’s speed.
The first penalty of the game went to Ottawa’s captain Eric Karlson, giving the opportunity to the Habs to take some momentum. However, Pageau used the occasion to score his 6th shorthanded goal of the season, giving a 1-goal lead to his team.
Both teams played rough hockey, no player gave an inch to another. The rivality started a few years ago in the playoffs and continued again last year in the 1 round of the playoffs. The violence led to a fight between Brown and Neil.
The Canadiens started the second period with energy, specially Galchenyuk’S line and Mitchell’s line. The Habs were still in the game until Ottawa’s second penalty for too many man on the ice. Lazar scored his team’s second goal of the night, again in penalty kill. Therrien’s men gave a lot of turnovers during that 2 minutes.
Emelin put the Habs in trouble at the beginning of the third period by getting a penalty, leading Methot to score a power play goal. The Senators were leading 3-0 . Montreal lost all its energy after that. They gave another shorthanded goal to Chiasson and the rest of the game was a mere formality.

The Montreal Canadiens started the second period with more energy. The Glachenyuk line as well as Mitchell line showed good offence, but once again, they let the Senators score a shorthanded goal. Habs defensemen allowed a lot of turnovers too.
I would protect Price, Subban and Galchenyuk for sure. Surely Gallager, Andrigettho who's playing a good game tonight and Desharnais too.
Each team can protect 7 forwards, 3 defensemen and 1 goal tender OR 8 skaters and 1 goaler.
